CORAL: A Social Network Platform for Combating Rapid Climate Change

Coral is social media platform which aims to replace environmentally harmful products from the market by use of points and friendly competition.

I created this project in the University of California, San Diego's incubator: The Basement, to develop a iOS platform for incentivizing the protection of our environment through a point based system that rewards users if they purchase eco-friendly products.

During this project, I conducted brainstorming sessions with team members to design and develop the application using Xcode, InVision and Adobe Illustrator.

Project Description

Coral is social media platform which tracks the users environmental footprint. As the user purchase's items that are eco-friendly they scan the product in the app and receive a point addition to their total. Eco-friendly items include: Utensils, tableware, foods, and other recyclable/ renewable products. These products will be sold in stores (grocery, Walmart/ Target, etc.) and either be scannable via bar or QR code. The users total points will be displayed on their profile which they and others can view. A higher point total will demonstrate to others that the user actually has put an effort to stopping their use of single use plastics and other items that harm the environment. A user can create competitions with friends to reach a certain point goal. This will push individuals to gain the motivation needed to purchase eco-friendly products. Another way for the user to help the environment would be to create a local event in the event section where the user can arrange and schedule meet-ups to help the environment (Events such as beach cleanups, tree plantings, trash gathering, donations, etc.). If a user attends and "checks in" to an event they will receive points added to their total on their profile.
